Let's make Chai Maple Glazed Scones!
I'm always finding new ways to upgrade my scone recipe with new spices and flavors. I'm feeling fall ready so I wanted to use some chai flavor in my scones. I never bake with chai so this is very new to me and I also didn't realize how easy it is to make your own chai spice at home. For this recipe, it's the same as my other scones with slight adjustments. With the chocolate chip scones, blueberry scones, and strawberry scones the only thing that changed was the add-on ingredient. For this recipe I had to make my own chai spice and glaze.
Making your own chai spice at home
If your store doesn't have chai spice you can make it at home with a combination of ingredients. All you need is the following ingredients which I just happened to have at home
- 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon ground cardamom
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- ½ tablespoon ground allspice
- ½ tablespoon ground cloves
- ½ tablespoon ground nutmeg

Chai Maple Glazed Scones
Ingredients
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoon Granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon Baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoon Cold butter cut
- ¾ cup Heavy cream
- 1 Egg
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1 tablespoon Chai Spice
Chai spice
- 3 tablespoon Ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon Ground cardamom
- 1 tablespoon Ground ginger
- ½ teaspoon Ground cloves
- ½ teaspoon Ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon Ground allspice
Maple Chai Glaze
- 1 cup Powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon Chai Spice
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon Maple Syrup
- 4 tablespoon Heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, add your flour, sugar, baking powder, pinch of salt, and 1 tablespoon of chai spice. Whisk all of these ingredients together until they're fully blended.
- Cut your butter up into pieces and add it into the flour. I used my pastry blender to make sure the butter was fully incorporated into the flour.
- In a measuring cup or a small bowl, add the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Whisk up this mixture too and add it to your flour.
- Use a wooden spoon to mix this all together and form a ball with the dough. Really work it between your hands to make a ball then flatten it into a 8 inch disc.
- Cut the dough into 8 pieces and top with sugar. Bake for 22 minutes until the scones are golden brown.
- While the scones are baking, make your Maple Chai Glaze. Instructions are above.
- When the scones are cool, dip them in the glaze and enjoy!
