Chocolate Chip Scones made with sourdough
Sourdough Chocolate Chip Scones! I used my sourdough starter to make these deliciously soft and buttery scones. You'll love them
Dry Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoon baking salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 stick unsalted butter - must be cold
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Wet Ingredients:
½ cup sourdough starter discard
1 large egg
½ teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons almond milk or regular milk (I used almond milk)
Instructions:
1. In a baking bowl, add all of the dry ingredients, followed by the cold, grated butter. Mix it all together until it's crumbly. Add the chocolate chips.
2. In another bowl, add the wet ingredients and mix until everything is combined. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and form into a ball with your hands. Add some flour to a clean surface and shake the dough into a disc. Use a knife or bench scraper to the dough into 8 pieces. Let the dough sit in the fridge for 30 minutes.
3. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Brush your scones with milk and top with sugar. Bake for 25 minutes until nice and brown. Let the scone cool for a few minutes and enjoy!
