A Classic Sugar Cookie Recipe that will satisfy any sweet tooth. A simple cookie recipe and an all time favorite.

Sugar cookies are one of those classic Christmas cookie that just pairs so well with the season. And when I need to find a simple cookie recipe I always turn to sugar cookies. No hassle no fuss and the cook time is nice and short. I always love making sugar cookies and sharing them with my husband. A delicate crisp round edge and a soft chewy middle equals DELICIOUSNESS.

The secret to this Classic Sugar Cookie Recipe

With this classic sugar cookie recipe, it's all about the ingredients. The high butter ratio contributes to the softness of the cookie. The baking powder also gives the cookies a light caky texture. I also used a 2 tablespoon cookie scoop which makes the cookie quite large and it makes the cookies nice and big and the middle nice and soft. Because of the size of the cookie, they take longer to spread out in the oven which leaves you with the soft edges. You can see in my Reel here how soft the middle of the cookie is.

Can you use this recipe for cut out cookies?

No. Unfortunately this recipe is too soft for cut out cookies. You can't even roll out this dough.

    • Preheat your oven to 350 and prepare your baking sheet with parchment paper. Add ¼ cup of sugar to a small bowl and set aside.
    • In a medium sized mixing bowl, add the butter and sugar and mix that together with your hand or stand mixer. If you don't have either you can just use a very sturdy spoon.
    • Add in your egg and vanilla extract until combined. Use your baking spatula or spoon to scrape down the side of the bowl as you’re mixing everything together.
    • Follow that step up with the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Once this is all mixed together using your cookie scoop get some cookie dough, place it in your hands and roll it into a ball. Dip each cookie into the bowl of sugar. Place the cookie dough on your baking sheet.
