The two key ingredients in homemade meatballs are eggs and breadcrumbs. Why does this recipe contain these ingredients. It helps bind together the ingredients and adds more texture to the meat. Without eggs and breadcrumbs, the meat won't hold together when cooking. If you want to replace the egg, you can use ground flaxseed and for the breadcrumbs you can use oatmeal or gluten-free crackers.
Can you use different meat?
Yes!! You can use any type of meat but ground beef contains different amounts of fat and moisture so it cooks differently. Ground turkey would be DELICIOUS! The cook time would have to decrease but it would be amazing. If you use ground turkey for this recipe, follow the same instructions to make the meatballs. Also you can make these meatballs without breadcrumbs and eggs if you want. You just need to find a binding ingredient you can use to hold it together. For the egg you can use ground flax or chia seeds. Extra firm tofu is also a good swap!

Easy homemade meatballs
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon Paprika
- ½ chopped onion
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees
- Mix everything above in the ingredients list together.
- Scoop the beef mixture into your hands in little balls and place them 1 inch apart.
- Cook for 25 minutes, cut one open and see if it's ready. Serve HOT and enjoy!
