Bring the apple orchard right to your kitchen with these homemade apple cider donuts. Perfectly cakey and it feels like fall in every bite you take. The best part is these donuts are baked, not fried, these fall treats come together quickly and easily— a simple and easy recipe you can make with family and friends this fall!

Want to know more about these apple cider donuts?

    • Texture: A cakey and moist texture. I'm not a fan of dry donuts and these are perfect. You get a bite of the cinnamon-sugar coating every time you eat a piece.
    • Flavor: Apple, cinnamon, spice. Tastes like it's straight from the bakery.
    • Ease: No mixer or donut cutter required. I made this all by hand in my baking bowls. I got my donut pan at Walmart or Target I believe.
    • Time: 12 minute bake time!

    Tips and tricks

This step is crucial in this recipe. When you add the 1 ½ cups of apple cider to your stove top to sizzle. It has to reduce to about ⅓ cup. Then it has to cool down. Too much cider will cause your recipe to be too watery or the flavor isn't right. You can do this step the night before to save time. Or you can just do it while you prepare the other ingredients.

    How to make these donuts

    1. Reduce your apple cider in a small sauce pan for about 20 minutes. I put the stove on medium heat and checked it at the 15 minuet mark. The cider has to cool for 10 minutes before you add it to the dry ingredients.

    2. Combine and whisk your dry ingredients - follow this up by adding your wet ingredients in another bowl and combine. Do not add the apple cider to the wet ingredients yet.

    3. Mix the wet and dry ingredients together THEN add the cider until its all combined. The batter will be a little thick but its because this is a cake like donut.

    4. I used a ziploc bag to pipe my donut pan. This is the lazy way to pipe and it helps with clean up. Fill up the ziploc bag and cut the corner out. Fill the donut pan halfway.

    5. Bake for 10 minutes. While you're doing this melt 1 tbs of butter and make your cinnamon sugar.

    6. Once the donuts are done baking, let cool for a few minutes in the pan and pop them out. Coat each donut in the melted butter (use a brush) and dip each donut in the cinnamon sugar mix.

    Ingredients

    • 1 ½ cup apple cider
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnnamon
    • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
    • 1 teaspoon cardamom
    • ½ cup whole milk
    • 1 egg
    • ½ cup light brown sugar
    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • 2 tbs melted butter
    • ¼ tsp salt
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Cinnamon sugar mix

    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • 2 tsp cinnamon
    • 1 teaspoon melted butter (to coat the donuts in)

    Instructions

    • Reduce the apple cider: On medium heat simmer the apple cider. At the 15 minute mark mix the cider up. This process will take about 20 minutes and you should have about ½ cup left. Let cool for 10 minutes.

    Donuts:

    • Grease up a donut pan and set aside.
    • Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and salt in a medium-sized bowl. Whisk and set aside.
    • In another bowl using a hand mixer or a spoon, mix up the melted butter, egg, sugars, milk, vanilla until combined. Add in your dry ingredients one cup at a time. Next, add in the cooled apple cider and mix the batter until fully combined.
    • In your greased donut pan, add the donut batter. I used the piping method I mentioned above or you can just spoon the donut batter into the pan.
    • Cook at 350 for 12 minutes. Cool for a few minutes in the pan.
    • Let the donuts cool for a few minutes in the pan and then pop them out on a cooling rack. Brush the donuts in the 1 tbs of melted butter and dip both sides in the cinnamon sugar mix.
    • Enjoy!

    Notes

If your donuts need more time cooking, pop them in for 3-4 minutes. Check on them in the oven so the donuts don't burn.
