There's nothing better than a cheese danish. I LOVE making homemade danish because it's easily one of the quickest desserts you can make in the kitchen. You only need a few ingredients and the process to make this treat is hassle-free. If I'm in the mood, I'll add some sweet and delicious toppings to my cheese danish. Depending on the season I swap out the topping with fruit that's trending that month. When I made this danish, cherries were in season. So I added some canned cherries on top of the cream cheese mixture.
How to make this homemade cherry danish
If you decide to make a homemade cherry danish you need to pick up some frozen puff pastry sheets you can get at your local supermarket. I use the Pepperidge farm puff pasty sheets. They're crunchy and buttery and cook perfectly. These puff pasty sheets need to thaw out on your counter for a bit. I normally take them out and go find something to do until the sheets aren't frozen anymore. Once they're ready to go we can start making the homemade cherry danish.
Tips
Here are some general tips you need to keep in mind for this recipe.
- You need one egg (beaten) to brush the outside of your puff pastry sheet before the danish goes in the oven. This helps the sheet crisp up.
- Draw a line around the puff pastry sheet using a butter knife. Make sure the line DOES NOT cut through the sheet. Check out my Reel here to see how I did this step.
- When cutting the puff pastry sheet, it needs to be a rectangle. Try your best to make them even.
- The cream cheese mixture will blend better if you leave the cream cheese out to get room temp.
